Helping teachers work SMARTER not harder
Because Teachers Matter! Happy teachers make better educators for our students
TEACHING CAN BE STRESSFUL
Did you know teachers can be involved in a thousand interpersonal connections a day. The quality of these interactions can either diminish or enhance wellbeing. The great news is that Positive Psychology is providing us with specific strategies that are supported with research.
Teacher Wellbeing gives you strategies to not only survive but THRIVE
WHY TEACHER WELLBEING?
As an experienced & passionate educator having worked with thousands of people across Australia in all forms of education, I know what it is like to repeat the same conversations with students each day, manage individual staff needs each week, and deal with challenging parents, not to mention the endless admin as well. It would seem like the “to-do” list never ended. From public schools, to private schools, Steiner schools, universities, colleges & working in outdoor education, I have seen and heard it all…. the stories are much the same. The one constant I see is high teacher demands resulting in poor teacher wellbeing.
IF TEACHERS ARE STRESSED, HOW CAN THEY PROVIDE THE BEST POSSIBLE EDUCATION FOR OUR KIDS?
John Hattie links teacher motivation to student achievement;
“When teachers become burned out, or worn out, their students’ achievement outcomes are likely to suffer because they are more concerned with their personal survival.” (Hattie, 2013)
Teachers themselves agree, reporting in a survey by Wellbeing Australia (2011), where 96% of teachers agreed that a focus on teacher wellbeing promoted student wellbeing (Sue Rofey, 2012)
The bottom line is, the demands on teachers have increased. If teachers have strategies to support their wellbeing , they will be better placed to manage every day stressors of the job to not only survive but flourish. In doing say, they become better role models and educators for our students
