Teacher Wellbeing

The reality is we as teachers love teaching but it's also exhausting.

If you work in education, you’re juggling competing demands on your time and energy every day. You’re expected to give — cognitively, emotionally and relationally — while adapting to constant change. When those demands outweigh the resources around you, your wellbeing is impacted.

And the ripple effect is huge.

Your wellbeing shapes how you think, feel and function at work. It influences your energy, your relationships and your ability to do meaningful work well. This isn’t about more self-care or pushing harder, it’s about understanding and managing your energy in sustainable ways.

Let’s be real—education is exhausting.

You’re constantly giving, juggling, and adapting. The pressure is relentless, and the system isn’t exactly designed to support you. But here’s the thing: teacher wellbeing isn’t just about self-care. It’s about energy—how you manage it, protect it, and restore it.

 

Teaching shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing

If you’re a teacher, your wellbeing affects how you show up for students and whether you can sustain a career you care about.

If you’re a leader, staff wellbeing underpins culture, trust and retention — and directly impacts performance and engagement.

Wellbeing is also shaped by the systems in which we work. Some of this sits within your influence. Some of it requires shared responsibility.

The research of employee wellbeing highlights that staff wellbeing is shaped by all three.

ME — the way we manage our mindset, energy and boundaries
WE — the quality of our relationships and leadership practices
US — the systems, expectations and culture of the school

Sustainable wellbeing happens when these three layers work together.

That’s why my work supports schools to strengthen wellbeing from the inside out — building individual awareness, supportive leadership practices, and whole-school cultures of care.
